2019 Swinging Skirts Charity Golf Tournament

Posted On: September 18, 2019

Another successful Swinging Skirts Golf tournament was held on Friday, September 6th, 2019 at the Nk’Mip Canyon Desert Golf course. The weather cooperated and gave the 122 enthusiastic golfers a beautiful day.  Ladies from around the Thompson-Okanagan participated in the 2-lady team event, with activities on the course to keep everyone busy throughout the day.  Refreshments were provided  by the Firehall Brewery & Desert Hills winery.

The Women of Oliver for Women Society (WOW) partnered with Investors Group Wealth Management (Michelle Weisheit) and the Nk’Mip Canyon Desert Golf course to raise $17,000 to help support the following charities: Desert Sun Counselling & Resource Centre, Highway to Healing,
Education Award to Adult Women, Right to Play, Oliver Food Bank, Sun Fun,
South Okanagan Secondary School bursary, Maple Springs summer camp,
Aboriginal Youth Sports, Women & Families in Need

WOW would like to give a special shout out to Indigenous Blooms,  TUC Industries, Investors Group Wealth Management (Michelle Weisheit), Bin Boyz, ACR Services, Sun Mountain Store, Sun Ridge Equipment, & OK Office Supplies for their generous monetary donations and to Karen from Nk’Mip Canyon Desert Golf course for all her hard work leading up to and on the day of the tournament.

This year’s event was sold out three months in advance, so we are looking forward to another great day of golf next year!!

Roots & Fruits Fesitval

Posted On: June 18, 2019

The day started off with the ladies of WOW
promoting their group in the
Roots & Fruits Parade held in Oliver on Saturday, August 17, 2018.

This year WOW once again sponsored the Oliver’s Got Talent Show.

The funds were used for food, refreshments as well as
Thank You gifts for all the performers.

Everyone enjoyed the different talents of the many entries.

With assistance received from Oliver Community Arts Council, WOW was able to put on a High Tea at the Community Centre on Saturday afternoon.    To add to the ambiance of the Tea, a hat contest, with prizes, was held.   Many hats were created, with the assistance of a couple members of WOW.  More contestants arrived and enjoyed some tea, sandwiches and dessert, while hats were being judged for beauty, uniqueness and overall creativity.

Donations were again handed out to Maple Springs Bible Camp, Oliver Recreation Parks and Recreation and Desert Sun Counselling.

Mark Wilson, from Maple Springs Bible Camp, was presented with another donation from WOW to partner up with our sponsorship.  This organization provides fun-filled camping experiences that benefit them physically, mentally and spiritually. Mark informed us that approximately 50 campers enlisted last year with three families being able to use this sponsorship.

Desert Sun Counselling representative, Brittany,  also accepted WOW’s donation
as they continue with programs which provide safety and well being for all.

Katie from Oliver Parks & Recreation accepted the SUN FUN donation, which enables healthy activities for children during the summer.
Roots and Fruits Expo, a three day event, which includes an Oliver’s Got Talent Show, is also sponsored by WOW.
